SAN JOSE, CA -- 08/04/09 -- Furthering its legacy as a pioneer and innovator in telemedicine devices, A&D Medical today announced the release of the first Continua Certified(TM) blood pressure monitor and the first certified weight scale. The certification of these two Bluetooth® wireless technology products significantly increases the number of market-ready, interoperable devices available in the Continua Health Alliance ecosystem.
The A&D Medical UA-767PBT-C automatic blood pressure monitor with Bluetooth wireless technology and the UC-321PBT-C precision weight scale with Bluetooth wireless technology were certified as conforming to the Continua Version One Design Guidelines, incorporating the Bluetooth Health Device Profile (HDP) and the ISO/IEEE 11073 data protocols. Compliance to these guidelines allows for interoperability between all Continua Certified(TM) devices and enables manufacturers to create health information systems easily and efficiently.
Both weight and blood pressure information are vital to the care of chronic diseases including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and diabetes. With these newly certified devices, A&D Medical expands the number of physiological parameters a Continua compliant solution can include.
"We are very proud to be able to offer our high-quality devices as part of the Continua Health Alliance ecosystem," said Teruhisa Moriya, President and CEO of A&D Medical. "Adding blood pressure and weight measurement functions will greatly increase the utility and capability of Continua telemedicine systems."
A&D Medical has a long history of pioneering new technology, particularly in the field of home blood pressure measurement. The company introduced the world's first oscillometric home blood pressure monitor, the first telemedicine blood pressure monitor and the first Bluetooth wireless technology enabled blood pressure monitor. Now, it has unveiled the first Continua Certified(TM) blood pressure monitor as well. This development comes hot on the heels of the announcement of Continua's first certified Bluetooth wireless technology device and less than a year after the announcement of the first Continua Certified(TM) USB device.
"We are pleased to see the announcement of two new Continua Certified(TM) devices from A&D Medical," said Rick Cnossen, Continua president and chairman of the Board of Directors. "The addition of these devices further contributes to Continua's mission to establish an ecosystem of interoperable personal telehealth solutions, empowering people and organizations to better manage their health and wellness."
"A&D Medical's Bluetooth wireless technology enabled devices help expand the capabilities of the Continua Certified(TM) product ecosystem, and will have a significant impact in the remote patient monitoring sector," said Emma Naudo, Market Analyst, IMS Research. "Remote patient monitoring technology is vital for the healthcare industry. The availability of interoperable, standards-based, solutions from companies like A&D Medical as part of an ecosystem of devices will be vital to the success of broad remote patient monitoring deployments."
The UA-767PBT series of devices is clinically validated for accuracy and meets ANSI/AAMI SP10 standards. Both the UA-767PBT-C and UC-321PBT-C Continua Certified(TM) and Bluetooth wireless technology enabled devices are already available for purchase. A&D Medical is already hard at work developing its next Continua compliant devices, which are expected to be certified later this year.
