HealthSpot KioskDublin, Ohio-based HealthSpot, which offers telemedicine kiosks for workplace and retail locations, has raised an undisclosed sum from Xerox. The company says the investment will help it more quickly scale deployment of its kiosks.

HealthSpot's total known funding to date is at least $23 million. It's most recent round was in May 2014.

As part of the investment, HealthSpot will now use Xerox's IT infrastructure for cloud hosting, system integration, claims eligibility, and claims submissions.

HealthSpot kiosks are designed for supermarkets, pharmacies, and healthcare facility waiting rooms. The kiosks are fully enclosed to provide a private setting for its remote care services. Patients using the kiosk can visit with doctors in real-time via high-definition videoconferencing. Update: While the company inked a deal at HIMSS 2012 with Sprint to run the video chats over the mobile carrier's 4G network, HealthSpot tells MobiHealthNews that partnership has since been severed and the kiosks no longer run over cellular networks. The kiosks come equipped with digital medical devices that allow doctors to collect health information during the remote visits, specifically a blood pressure cuff, thermometer, stethoscope, dermoscope, and otoscope as well as a built-in weight scale.

This investment news comes just a week after HealthSpot announced that it would partner with Rite Aid to deploy its kiosks in select locations Ohio.

Over the next five years, HealthSpot said that it plans to open kiosks in retail pharmacies, large employers, long-term care centers, and emergency departments across the US.

“With telehealth expected to play a leading role in the delivery of healthcare in the future, we believe our HealthSpot stations offer a unique solution, delivering healthcare services more conveniently and cost effectively than ever before,” HealthSpot CEO Steve Cashman said in a statement last week. “By working with Rite Aid, a trusted member of communities across Ohio, as well as providers and payers, we are reimagining the way healthcare is delivered in a retail setting.”
